Bahamian Referee Whistling Happy
Earlier this year we announced that, Bahamian Refereeing Official, Stan Darville, had been appointed to one of the five positions of Elite Assessor at the CONCACAF U20 Tournament in Guatemala. The role of the assessor is to develop the overall performance of referees to a consistently high level by way of critical review, advice and continual assessment.
Since this time Stan has been appointed to assess Referees at the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament that took place in the US this summer.
Before the tournament began, Stan spent a week in Dallas at the Elite Referees Gold Cup Seminar and then he went straight into action assessing Group B matches, starting with the 6th June Jamaica vs. Grenada match in Los Angeles.
He was then sent to Miami to assess the 10th June 2011 Jamaica vs. Guatemala match after which he headed to New Jersey where he assessed the Honduras vs. Jamaica match played on the 13th June. Stan was then appointed to assess the Costa Rica vs. Honduras Quarter Final match on the 18th June, followed by the Semi-Finals in Houston between the USA vs. Panama on the 22nd June at Reliant Stadium. He was then selected to assess the Gold Cup Finals at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California between the USA and Mexico. As with most tournaments, the routine for Referees and Assistant Referees (other than doing their assigned matches) was one of preparation, assessment and review. These daily sessions were led by Assessors and Instructors, who worked together to keep the Referees and Assistant Referees focused and in sync.Stan has been enjoying his role as an International Assessor and the experience that comes with it.
“I continue to get a better feel for what is expected of referees at all levels and it provides me with great working material to bring home and pass on to my colleagues in refereeing,” he said.
Stan continues to be called on for international duties in the CONCACAF Champions League with an appointment in Mexico at the end of July. The BFA is delighted at these continued high profile duties delegated to Bahamian match officials. The fact that our officials are securing more and more prestigious assignments illustrates the large strides our small nation is making in this this area.
