The Referee’s Academy to take the FIFA MA Course held in the Bahamas August 4th - 7th

The Bahamas Football Association Referees Department with approval from the Bahamas Football Association (BFA)

was offered the opportunity for

the Referee’s Academy to take the FIFA MA Course held in the Bahamas August 4th - 7th.

This course requested by the Referees department as they saw a need to expand their refereeing knowledge allowing them to better facilitate the fast growth of football in the Bahamas.
 
Football is a physically demanding game and requires referees to be fit and technically sound to perform at the highest level. However, the academy instructors were impressed by the participant’s commitment, dedication and togetherness throughout this course.
Some topics presented included: Player’s equipment. Challenges and Severity of Fouls. Match official technique. Handball. Tactical Fouls. Game Management.  Penalty Area Decisions and Game Management.
 
There were 3 FIFA referees, 4 national referees and 13 academy referees in attendance.
Esse Baharmast and Rohan Thorbourne supervised the course with main presenters Dianne Ferreira-James (technical instructor), a former FIFA World Cup and Olympic referee and present CONCACAF Technical Instructor & Assessor along with Joseph Edwards (fitness instructor).  Mr Baharmast possess vast knowledge and experience as a former FIFA World Cup and Olympic referee and present Technical Instructor with FIFA and USA Soccer as well as Mr Thorbourne former FIFA Assistant referee and now CONCACAF and regional fitness instructor.

The 4 days of classroom sessions was conducted at Thomas A. Robinson Stadium, fitness and technical field sessions were held at the R.A.L.D Field. There was also Video testing (Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct and Law 11 – offside) as well as FIFA Fitness Testing that entails 40 x 75m sprints with 25m recoveries in the form of 10 laps around 400m tracks and 5-6 repeated 40m sprints. In a nutshell, the Course was a SUCCESS.
The course concluded with a high expectation placed on the participants and instructors to further promote growth and education through football.

The BFA’s Referee’s Academy is the brainchild of president Sealey and after the trials and failures, it has grown into what could be a pioneer for other countries to adapt.
